A very pleasant, and dry, St Swithins Day trip was well attended with over fifty members cramming onto the coach. Lunch was taken at Crowders Garden Centre near Horncastle where a buffet had been laid on. Gunby Hall proved to be a charming house with some beautiful walled gardens. The house is mainly of 1700 with significant, but not overwhelming, late Victorian alterations. Field-Marshal & Lady Montgomery-Massingberd presented the house to the National Trust in 1944. Lady Montgomery-Massingberd lived in the house until her death at the age 91 in 1963 after which the hall was tenanted by Jack & Betty Wrisdale.
