A very pleasant, and dry, St Swithin�s Day trip was well attended with over fifty members cramming onto the coach. Lunch was taken at Crowder�s Garden Centre near Horncastle where a buffet had been laid on. Gunby Hall proved to be a charming house with some beautiful walled gardens. The house is mainly of 1700 with significant, but not overwhelming, late Victorian alterations. Field-Marshal & Lady Montgomery-Massingberd presented the house to the National Trust in 1944. Lady Montgomery-Massingberd lived in the house until her death at the age 91 in 1963 after which the hall was tenanted by Jack & Betty Wrisdale. Gunby Hall, Lincolnshire
A charming modest brick country house built in 1700 for Sir William Massingberd, who obtained bricks, tiles and timber from Hull. Field Marshal Archibald Montgomery Massingberd gave the house to the National Trust in 1944.
