Blue Plaque to be dedicated to William Mason in Aston cum Aughton
Friday, 14th March 2014
The Aston Local History Society will be unveiling a Plaque to William Mason at the Reading Room in Aston cum Aughton at noon on 30 March.
The Hull poet, who was Rector of Aston for forty-three years from 1754, was widely respected in his life time and entertained many prominent people including Thomas Gray (author of the famous Elegy in a Country Churchyard) and Horace Walpole in the village. Gwen Stavely's biography of the poet was recently published by the Georgian Society for East Yorkshire and copies are still available.
The event will include the performance of an anthem by Mason by the Church Choir.
