On Saturday 1 June 2024 the Georgian Society for East Yorkshire held a family-friendly day exploring Georgian history, at the magnificent Beverley Guildhall. There were living history characters who brought the stunning courtroom’s crime and punishment history to life, as well as children’s craft, Regency dance demonstrations and more. Tongue-in-cheek flamboyance was brought by stilt-walking street performers who characterised a pair of Georgian aristocrats.
Visitors were able to catch East Riding Museums Service’s fascinating exhibition Through the Eyes of a Georgian Gentleman which uncovered the intriguing life and times of John Courtney, as seen through his diaries, transcribed by Susan Neave.
With over 400 people attending, the day of free events and activities was a great Georgian success for adults and children alike!
