York House from Yorkersgate

Saturday, 14th May 2016

Our trip to Malton last Saturday began with a lecture at the Baptist Church given by stone mason Nigel Copsey. Mr Copsey, who led the restoration of York House, gave us his unique perspective on the town and the history of the Fitzwilliam Estate. Of particular interest were his discoveries that suggest that the York House and Talbot Hotel sites have a far longer history than is generally accepted.

We were treated to a buffet laid on by members of the Methodist Church, followed by a walk around the town centre.
