Today the society enjoyed a visit to Tatton Park in Cheshire. Some members enjoyed a guided tour of the house before exploring the gardens. The rhododendrons and azaleas were in full bloom and made a spectacular display. The weather was windy, with some sunny intervals; thankfully the rain held off until after the coach set off on its return journey.

The Egertons of Tatton were a junior branch of the family descended from Sir Thomas Egerton, Privy Counsellor to Elizabeth I. Their first recorded house at Tatton was built for John Egerton and completed by 1716. The long straight avenue from Knutsford may also be of this date.
